  Matched pair?

  Hello my dear Mix Protégé family,

  I was thinking about getting a “matched” pair of small diaphragm condenser microphones — mainly to record my acoustic guitar in stereo using XY set up, but also potentially for drum overhead, or even just for stereo mic-ing anything.

  My question is – do I need to purchase the microphones as a matched pair? Is that best practice? Or can I just buy two of the same microphone?

  Also happy to hear anybody’s recommendations for decent match pairs, let’s say less than $1000 total, or even better – less than $500!!!😅
