Careers In Music
Hey fam!
Thought I’d kick off this new forum by sharing an article I contributed to recently about careers in music — specifically Engineering and Mixing.
This article gives a broad overview of what an audio engineer DOES, how to become an engineer, and how much they are paid.
Rates, of course, vary widely person-to-person, and often project-to-project, based on the engineer’s credits/caché/demand, as well as other factors like project budget vs. how much the engineer loves the music and/or people involved. I find this is pretty much the way all freelance service industries work — tricky to answer that question definitively!
But that said, this article — and this site in general — has some great insights sourced from professionals working in their field.
Lemme know what you think!

Audio Engineers produce recordings and live performances. They select and set up gear to get the sound the musicians want. After recording, they mix the tracks to create a song or album.
