  • Be a fly on the wall 🪰 and fly around the studio with me!

Soooo … I got a 360º camera recently and am excited to find new immersive ways to invite Mix Protégé peeps into the studio with me. Here’s a lil’ test run using my new camera on a session this past Saturday at Beacon Street Studios in Venice, CA, where I produced a super fun session for a talented new artist named Zelda.

The audio in this vid is solely from the camera so unfortunately you can’t hear much of the song other than Zelda’s wonderful voice, but thought it’d be a fun sneak peek at some new tech I’m hoping to incorporate into future videos.

Recording sessions are such special, private moments between the artist and their collaborators, and I’m so lucky to get a front row seat to the magic as producer and/or engineer. And now, with this cool new 360 camera, we can welcome YOU into the recording studio too!

👇 Here’s a landing page I made which will open the Youtube app on your phone

    https://listen.to/mp360

    • Artist: Zelda • Producer: me • Engineer: Michael Leto (@Michael) • Drums: Charlie Paxson • Bass: Rick Boston

For the best experience, view using the youtube app on your phone. That way you’ll be able to point your phone in any direction to “look around” the studio. It’s totally surreal! (If you REALLY want to blow your mind, check it out in the Youtube VR app using a Meta Quest headset like me (and @dolph) or even a $10 Google Cardboard VR kit, which is the perfect VR rabbit hole gateway drug anyone can afford 💊🥽)

🚨 Once it’s playing in the phone app, position your phone horizontally for full-screen, then click the gear ⛭ icon / Quality / Advanced / 2160s, which will display it in 4K resolution. This type of video will also playback on desktop browsers but you’ll need to use the mouse to click-and-drag the image around (not as fun as YouTube phone app). This type of video will NOT work natively within most mobile web browsers.

ENJOY! And lemme know what you think – thanks fam!

PS – the picture below is just a preview thumbnail, not a link to the 360 video. To view the video go here: https://listen.to/mp360

Oops- I just realized the original link wasn’t opening correctly on some devices. Should be working now 🤓

That must explain why I was looking at the tail end of the camera’s viewpoint the entire time.

      Take two.

Haha – well, maybe. For some reason the default view of the video shows the drummer and bassist. But if you move your phone around (or swipe around with your mouse or finger) you’ll see Zelda and us in the control room too.

📹I just can’t get over how cool it is to use my mouse to scroll around on this super neat video! I could look at Zelda, Rick, Dana or Charlie. Who knew this would be invented in my lifetime. So cool! 😝
