Comping, tuning, and mixing vocals is the trickiest and most important part of any project. I have been intimidated by it for literally decades. I might be embarrassed to share how much money I’ve spent on courses over the years, but I’ve seen great ones and I’ve seen poor ones. This is truly a GREAT one. (If I could underline and bold the word “great” I would have.) This course was better than most in-person internships I’ve done and unlike some other courses out there, there’s no holding back on the goodies. One deceptive thing is the title. You’re getting WAY more than a course on natural vocal production, you’re getting a master class on editing and arrangement. Mixing can often be the sexy topic of discussion, but no matter how many mixing courses I took, my mixes didn’t see significant improvement until my editing improved. The better I got at editing, the better my mixes ended up being. This course takes you through comping, editing, tuning, mixing, and mastering. And possibly one of the best parts is clearly explaining the thought process behind decisions at every stage. (Do we want that special guitar stop in the first chorus, or save it for later? Are we being intentional about the reverbs we’re choosing, what story is that telling? How do we keep this authentic for the genre?… etc.) If you’re looking to up the game of your personal home recordings, providing these services as a side hustle, or doing this line of work full-time, you will absolutely benefit from this course and Dana’s perspectives. I have 5 pages of notes, a monitor full of posted notes and I’m currently going through it for a second time. There’s a lot in here! Easily worth every penny, and every minute invested.
