Paul, Usually live board mixes don’t sound nearly this good for all the obvious reasons. Love what you recorded and enhanced here with Ozone ( I use an earlier version of Ozone for mastering my own music. I like the tonal balance feature as it keeps me in the ballpark across the entire freq, spectrum since I lack a flat mixing environment) Dig the track as well! Fun times!

Greatness! Love the track & the production. This has the sound of a 2 inch 24 track analog console recording. Great clarity & super clean. Nice!

Hey Jesse, you captured an inspiring moment. So authentic and beautiful and then embellished it nicely! Not even really sure what qualifies as “professional” anymore. I vote for real / authentic every time. Very nice!

For better or worse, I’ve always used the studio as another instrument to be creative with (rather than just capture performance). Actually, I think the reason I ever began recording/ engineering/ mixing etc. ( In 1980 on a Teac A3440 purchased from my Air Force Base Exchange for $799.00 on credit which was a fortune to me at the time as a 1 stripe Airman haha) was the freedom to be more creative as an artist/ producer. In turn, I am all for experimenting, (breaking rules is half the fun for me 😃) and pushing the gear (plug-ins) past their limits… just to see. You never know what amazing tricks you will learn or sounds you might stumble across. Also, some of my greatest recording moments have been accidents. Thanks Dana for this excellent quick review on limiting!

Edit… my first reply was meant to be a reply to Dana’s reply 😆 sorry.

Hey Paul, Absolutely love the personality that shines through in your mixes & musical creations. To me the dryer, cleaner, more upfront, aspects of your mixes remind me of some of my favorite tracks from the 70’s. Thanks for sharing!~

Hi Stuart, nothing specific to mention except what Jeremy mentioned about the snare coming in a little hot. Loved the overall mix. I think the tension / suspense cue aspect is conveyed nicely.

Hi Jeremy, love the vibe and the space you created here. Pulled me in for sure.

Hi Alex, nothing more to add here. Love the track! Good stuff!

Paul, yes the dynamic EQ is awesome for exactly the reason you mention (I was going to say like a multi-band compressor on steroids but then I became curious about the differences & found this article https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/how-to-use-dynamic-eq-in-mastering.html (if you see the Access Denied graphic below, disregard and copy paste link into your browser, I guess Izotope doesn’t want people linking their articles from blogs?) )
I had the earliest Ozone when it came out and it was like Alice In Wonderland going down the rabbit hole lol, so much intricate control over settings that it was dangerous. I would spend a whole day experimenting and adjusting thinking it was great & then when i stepped away for a time realizing it sounded terrible… rabbit hole 101.
I have Ozone 9 now. Ozone has been a game changer for the mixer who wants to be able to master as well! Perfect for this new world of self produced streaming releases at an obtainable price. All the best! DM

Not yet, I have so many UAD plug-ins now from their insane xmas holiday sale I’m still working my way through them lol. I used a lot of them on working on Jettison. Love the sound. Can’t wait to dive into these.

That’s actually good to hear as I am all in the box as well. Something I can work on then.

Wish I still had mine! That’s awesome!
