    This is great.
Can’t really add to what @dana is saying…. is everyones first sentance before they add their two cents 😂. Haha.

I find when the ac gtr is the main focus of the song, I struggle more with it more than if it’s a supporting role. I find it harder to hide edits, sound full, but yet not over produced…etc (and mask some peoples heavy breathing 🤦‍♂️)

If I recorded the tune, I’ll usually use two mic’s (sonically different) and a DI. Record two final passes (two different guitars if possible), treat each pass (3 sound sources) as one via summing folder, and pan. Often the DI doesn’t get used, but if I’m using only one guitar for both final takes, I might want more sonic differentiation and I’ll run it through a amp sim or maybe grit it up a bit with a saturation plug in.

I do some basic “corrective” EQ on individual tracks, and bigger tone shaping moves on the bus.

Voc + Acgtr tracks scare me. It’s so exposed haha. Hence my love for the Natural Production course. Really helped me in a timely fashion while working on a set of tunes of exactly that.

  • Dude, this sounds great. I love the arrangement, the space, and the tension as it progresses.
Very creative approach as well. 🙌

  • Hey @KNGGRG fun adventure in building a setup.

I don’t want to add more confusion and decision paralysis, at the end of the day, just getting started is what’s important, are you considering anything other than Apollo interfaces?

At the risk of sounding like a Gearspace clown and opening myself up to much hate…There could be better options out there (blasphemy I know)

The strength of Apollo is their plugins. They’re great and you can make up for the rather lack-luster pre’s by taking advantage of the unison stage. But there are certainly other great options such as Antelope or Audient. (However not armed with the plethora of plugin options)

Obviously, a zillion hit records have been made on Apollo gear, so it’s hands down a good choice.
All I’m saying is when I got started I thought UA was all there was and was glad some people took the time to introduce other options.

I’m very excited to get UAD plugins now that they’ve gone universal (We’ll see if this is going to mean a computer upgrade though 🤦‍♂️)

  • Haven’t tried them yet. I’ve been tempted to pick some up though. I don’t like the idea of constantly having to pay for upgrades (new rooms etc.) However, I guess with some self-control, I can just work with the rooms it comes with. 😂

I do most of my mixing on ATH M50’s (no sonarworks… maybe that’s the next move). I got some HS8s mostly as a first set of references (cuz my room is bogus), and then my laptop speakers and a bounce to my phone for a fourth reference.

Once I realize I can’t make it sound good on any of those, I shut down the computer and go play drums. 😂

Thanks boss…. So not sure why the preview isn’t working there. But the link does work 😂

  • Read it in a book somewhere.
Do as I say, not as I do. 😂

  • Well, that is quite the testimonial!
I am really interested and probably will eventually. My mind is too ‘businessy’ for my own good sometimes, so I look at my revenue from mixing and don’t feel like that’s the best place for my ‘investments’. But it’s taking a lot of will power these days to not pick a pair up.

  • Hey!
Glad you picked up the Twin and you’re getting set up. It’ll treat you well.

Can’t wait to hear you post some things you’re working on 😉

Hey man! Thanks so much for checking it out and providing feedback
    – Voc phone effect – Yeah, it was printed like that. I fought with it a bunch to try to make it brighter, but it always seemed too forced and ended up getting weird. Like I was boosting hi’s that didn’t seem to exist in his voc track 😔
    – Snare Top End – This is great. I’ve never thought about that relationship before.
I’ll play with both suggestions, taming the top end of the kick to match the snare and bringing the snare snap up to meet the kick and see which seems to play nicer.
    – Agtr – Great! In Mix1 I had the acgtr a little hotter, Mix2 I brought it down in V2 because I was afraid it was getting monotonous. I’ll give that guy the stage that I so ruthlessly took away.

As always, thanks SO much for the feedback @dana. This along with the courses has been helping me tremendously. 🙏

Yeah, it must be an admin-only feature.

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find how to edit a published post. But I’ll throw it here for now. If I sort it out, I’ll certainly edit the OP with the attachment.

    @JLEW
My guy! Thank you for the kind words 🙏

Thank you for pointing out the section post solo. I’ll look into that and see how I can make it a bit more special.

This was a bit of a dream scenario as I’m starting with very well recorded and cleaned up tracks. I also spent about 30 hrs on it. So not a realistic “work” scenario I’d say 😂

Listening back after stepping a way for a few days. I want to readdress V2 and maybe tuck the agtr back a bit and automate some of the lead egtr stuff. And of course revisit the post solo section you mentioned.

Thanks again, Jesse. Really appreciate you taking the time to listen and provide feedback to help me progress.

  • Love Tidal for that reason. I can deep dive into someone’s body of work (given they’re credited accurately). I’ve used it for doing deep dives into studying my favorite drummers and their tendencies, and for finding new producers and songwriters. I do like Apple for the lyrics feature.

Dude, I love that you shared this photo. It’s actually so inspiring. You mean I don’t need barefoot’s and SSL everything to make hit records!? 😂
At least you had that candle on the desk to get the vibe right. 😂

  • Man, that’s incredible. Truly amazing the product you can deliver with whatever tools are available. Just gotta have good mentorship and put in the work. Currently streaming Home Before Dark on Tidal, very nice!

Nice to see Beni Sway make a cameo in that YT interview. 😂
