    Hi Jesse, thanks for sharing,

Note, I’m not the residential mix expert here! ha.

    So…

    Love the babbling brook!

The horn sounds really lovely (including the delay).

As for the guitar, it sounds very nice, crisp, and clean to me; maybe wouldn’t mind hearing more warmth (a smidge of low-mid) – yet I feel like some of the lower end was just a smidge strong near the end.

Halfway through listening and I wouldn’t mind hearing a little less babbling brook, like some modest filtering or just slightly quieter and then bring it back up for the beginning and the end.

All together, sounds 99% there to me!

Lovely vibe and performance. Beautiful track, sincerely.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

    Right?! I’m a sucker for the stars-aligning woo-woo stuff.

Epic… thanks for the feedback and kind words.

I’m trying the sidechain on another track I’m producing today after reading this. will also give it a go next mix session. I think I get it… whether it be Saturn saturation nastiness or sidechain super pump, I’m starting to really absorb your point about going super over the top with the effect and then dialing it in to taste. I guess we want bold ingredients and then just putting in a touch for the right flavor pop.

Will see about making that snare crackalack!

    Huge thank YOU, Dana!

Noted: Mixes may sound cleaner if monitors are dusted. 🤣

What kind of setting is “in” or “out” for surround sound anyway? haha.🤔

    Hi Jon!

Thanks for sharing and being vulnerable. I feel you! I’m not the residential mix expert here but I can share my top-3 takeaways…

    1. The recording sounds great and the overall mix is clean and cozy on my headphones.

    2. The lead vocal jumps out here and there which is noticeable in the waveform’s peaks (ex: 1:49). A little volume automation could easily reduce those peaks.

    3. This guy can sing though the vocals might benefit from some subtle auto-tune here and there, primarily in the choruses. It’s especially noticeable on the doubling. Doubling can often help cover up pitchiness, but in this case, it’s drawing attention to the pitch and distracting me as a listener from the song.

Some gentle vocal alining of the double (making sure the double pulses start and end around the same point as the lead – by nudging or warping the wave) might add some impact to the chorus as well.

    Look forward to hearing more!

    🙌

Jesse, many many thanks for the listens, thoughtful notes, and words of encouragement. Means a lot.

I agree with everything you said. You nailed it, and it sounds aligned with Dana’s video notes as well.

Really appreciate it and hope to get it out soon and bring some feel-good to the world. (shooting the video now!)

Yeah, the hat does feel hot, esp in chorus 2. Will try that as well. Thanks!

Awesome. Love reading this note (that you also shared on my consultation!) about the levels and cranking the system on the first pass with headroom. I needed this visual/text reminder! 🙏
