Transcribing & Recording an Iconic Holiday Sax Solo

A bit of holiday cheer from Mix Protégé and producer, mixer, engineer (and sax player), Dana Nielsen. Vocals by session singer extraordinaire, Charissa Nielsen.

I transcribed and recorded Boots Randolph’s iconic sax solo for an upcoming Nielsen family rendition of ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.’ It felt great to bust out my favorite Conn 10M tenor, put pencil to staff paper, and rip out some raspy Randolph riffs!

JZ Microphones on Vocals: V67, V12 and BH2

JZ Microphones on vocals are a no-brainer.  The Vintage 67, Vintage 12, and Black Hole BH2 have become staples in my studio over the past few years.  They’re built like tanks, are perfectly priced, have a unique design, and — most importantly — sound fabulous on virtually every sound source.
